The Enigma 2.0 Firewall Appliance provides the state-of-the-art for enterprise security for Internet, intranet and extranet traffic. This quality, application proxy-based gateway firewall provides the latest and best in secure technologies, remote administration and built-in reporting for monitoring all activities.

Enigma provides secure Internet access for e-mail, web browsing, multimedia and other applications. All communications passing through the firewall are logged, providing a detailed audit trail of all activities. Reporting tools are provided that can produce 55 different reports. The security features and administration tools of the Enigma Firewall Appliance make available a professional, streamlined appliance that does not require a large in-house technical staff to maintain. Firewall administration is made straightforward by the embedded graphical user interface (GUI).

The Enigma Firewall Appliance software suite is derived from technology developed by Freemont Avenue Software. This technology has been securing large organizations since 1994 and has been enhanced by ten releases during the past 6 years. This proven technology has never been compromised and represents the state-of-the-art for security, reliability and performance.

The drawing below shows a simplified reconstruction of the internal workings of the Enigma Firewall Appliance. All computers in the private network are shown in blue and the DMZ, shown in turquoise, communicate with the proxies. As can be readily seen, there is no direct communication between computers on different sides of the firewall. The proxies manage connectivity between the networks and all transfers must pass through them. There are multiple independent proxies that are tailored to provide application specific defenses such as: e-mail, FTP, HTTP, reverse-HTTP as well as others not shown.

 

Many so-called firewalls are based on traditional packet filter technology. Industries with compelling needs for maximum security, such as banks, brokerage firms and government agencies have long ago moved away from this rather insecure and vulnerable approach. Enigma is built around a bank-level security product and has been optimized for the moderate size network. It is an application proxy-based firewall, which has the benefit of analyzing and understanding the data in an application layer rather than just being filtered. For specific user-defined applications that do not require the same high-level of security provided by Enigma, standard packet filters can also be defined.
